August update

August 7, 2009

We are in the process of planning our retreat in February and are hoping that it will as successful an event as our last. The retreat is open for approximately eight attendees this year, and we already have at least five  committed to attending. We ask that if you are interested you contact us before the end of August. Cost for this coming retreat will be $45 and will cover the three night two day stay. We are hoping to have a one afternoon workshop on Saturday this year and are working on a presenter. We are excited as well about September's meeting when Larry Ward will be our speaker. He has always presented us with new and exciting information about poetry, his passion.

We are still looking for guest bloggers for this site the commitment is a month at a time and you may blog either once for the month or weekly. If you are interested please let us know.

This month Doris returned from her visit in Germany and presented information at the August meeting on planning and presenting a workshop. Those in attendance learned the ins and outs as well as a bit about the business side...

Some member news

June 13, 2009

Our Saturday morning coffee meetings have been lagging of late, due to a busy summer schedule for our members.  We have been missing everyone.

Our own Doris Shaw is off to Germany for the next month visiting her military son, she says her biggest news, other than the romance stories being released is that she is going to be a grandma.   If you haven’t, had a chance to see her interview with Jessy Ferguson go and check it out at Jess’s blog.  http://www.jessyferguson.blogspot.com

Curt Iles has his back cover almost ready for his newest endeavor, a WWII Louisiana maneuvers story. You can see it  by visiting the online group he attached it to an email there.

Gordon Rottman just returned from 10 days at the family ranch in Mexico, where part of his novel takes place, writing from before dawn until 11 every night. He reports he did over 45,000 words.  The book's now is 81,000 and has just a half dozen chapters to go. Charlotte Hilliard has spent the last 5 weeks trying to make it through a fusion back surgery and reports at the moment couldn't care less about writing...  Sherri brought with her author Kenneth Merle Morrison who writes from his home in central Louisiana.  His bio and writings can be found through Sherri's website.

March Meeting

March 5, 2009

In 1995 Tsagoi Jennings left his career as a therapist in the mental health field, preferring to utilize his skills as a mentor/trainer and storyteller. He founded a group called Tipi Tellers and tells stories in a full size tipi at festivals, schools and retreats. Born in Fort Worth, he chose to make his home in the Big Thicket five years ago and since then has enjoyed sharing his storytelling and adventure experiences all across southeast Texas.  On Tuesday evening Tsagoi, joined us to present a mini-workshop entitled Linguistic Grease for the Stuck Writer.  He brought what he called new tools and toys to help us not only find our way out of  “writer’s block” but help us in our personal struggles as writers as well.  By using VAK charts, learning style inventory, and analyzing character and personality strengths he helped us with creating our characters.  An interesting demonstration was given on anchoring.  These are all tools used in therapy that we can apply to our writing.   You can visit both of his websites  www.tipitellers.com www.StoriesforaChange.com  or email him Tsagoi@storiesforaChange.com

First Annual Retreat

February 28, 2009

Beauregard Writers Guild held its first annual invitation only Working Retreat at Toledo Bend February 20th through the 23rd.  We had room for eight at the retreat with five attending.

Everyone who attended worked on an ongoing project.  Judith Mc Neely was working on character development for her novel.  Gordon Rottman has a new project, a young adult fiction novel and completed four chapters while at the retreat.  Anita Machek continued work on her novel with character expansion and subplot organization.  Suzanne Pinkley was diligently pulling together a series which began from writing prompts tentatively titled Alonzo Alexander Adams-Time Traveler.   Doris Shaw continues to work on her Reclaiming Me project expanding  by adding devotionals.

Evenings were spent in discussion of problems, methods, books, writing and more.

The plan is to hold this retreat again next year.  Anyone who is interested in attending next year is encouraged to contact us, the sooner the better.  Slots will fill up fast.  Our hope is to add an afternoon workshop on one of the days.

If you were unable to attend this year,  you missed good company, great conversation, lots of food, fresh air, and a beautiful sunset.

A few pictures are posted on our...
